幸島のニホンザル研究に端を発し, 京都大学の研究者たちが開拓した霊長類学, その開拓者の一人, 河合雅雄名誉教授のもとに残された資料. 世界で初めて撮影・収録された野生状態でのマウンテンゴリラの映像, 個体識別によって捉えられたゲラダヒヒの社会性・社会行動, 自然交配でのハイブリッドヒヒについての映像・画像等などを含み, 調査地域であるアフリカの民俗等も記録されている.
